Skip bin hire – Can You Put Anything in a Skip Bin?
Hiring a skip bin is an ideal way to dispose of most types of household rubbish and garden waste, especially if you have a lot of it or are planning a big clean-out.
It is important to understand the rules around the types of waste allowed in our hired skip bins. Disposing of certain materials and types of waste, or mixing them incorrectly, in a skip bin can attract additional fees or require that your skip rubbish is returned to you.
To help you avoid any additional charges, Nkageng skips has prepared this simple guide.
What Can’t You Put in a Skip Bin?
The following items and types of waste should never be placed into any skip bin hired.
• Putrescible waste (including food waste, nappies and pet waste)
• Liquid waste (including paints, oils, chemicals and thinners)
• LPG gas cylinders
• Asbestos
• Hazardous waste
• Tyres
• Batteries
• E-Waste (electronic waste)
As well as this guide on skip bin hire waste types, our skip hire form has been designed to help you plan to ensure you avoid any extra charges by asking you to specify the waste items you intend to dispose of.
What Are the Types of Waste?
There are a wide range of skip waste types which can be placed in our skip bins without additional fees. It is important to know exactly what these types of waste, and what can and can’t be disposed of before you hire a skip.
General Waste

What general rubbish can go in a skip bin hire?
Most general waste can be put in a skip bin rental especially for long term skip bin hire; including things like boxes, timber, furniture, white goods, some electronic appliances, clothes, toys, carpet and most types of green waste.
Inner spring mattresses can also be placed in a rubbish skip if this is arranged prior to delivery of the skip bin.
Skip bin hire Prohibited Waste Items
To avoid additional charges, do not include any of the following items with general waste:
• Bricks, concrete, soil, concrete and ceramic tiles, food waste, asbestos, liquid waste (including paints, oils, thinners and chemicals), tyres, LPG cylinders, batteries, TVs and computers (including monitors and keyboards).
• Bricks and concrete can be disposed of in a skip rental, but they must be disposed of separately from any other type of waste. This rule also applies to sand, soil and dirt. Please see the sections below for more information.
• Many electronics, such as computers and televisions, cannot be disposed of in a skip and are classified as e-waste. The Electronics section below has more details.
